I Love My Job!

I love my job because I can be as flexible as I need to be

Yesterday a friend called in a panic, she was moving and the rental company messed up her order

Now she didn’t have a truck to move her big stuff and she had to be out that day

Because my job is flexible and I have a truck I was able to help her

Everyone else had to work a non flexible job

She lives an hour and a half away so the move took my entire day

I felt lucky though to have a job where I could drop what I was doing to help a friend

Luckily too, Mojo Monday goes on all week

I will get my take on Mojo Monday posted before the Sunday deadline

I am also gearing up for the Summer Splash Craft Fair, here in Imperial, NE on Saturday June 22nd

I have been super busy making things I can sell

Pictures will be coming as soon as I am done

I will also be posting a recap of the event after the show is over

I hope you stay tuned, there will be lots to see in a few days

I am blessed to have a friend and fellow Demonstrator coming to help me

I think I would be even more behind without her help

I also feel sorry for my poor house, it has been so neglected with all the crafting I have been doing

No matter I am doing what I love Crafting!!!

Hey, if you have any tips for making craft shows better please let me know

you can comment below or contact me directly

Thank you for hanging with me

Have a Stamping Great Day!

Two Cards, One Stamp

I made two cards for Father’s day

One for my Dad and one for my Father in law

I used the only sorta masculine stamp set I own, Lovely as a Tree

Incidentally Lovely as a Tree has been in the annual catalog since 2001, I believe it is the only stamp set to stay around that long

My Father in law's Card
My Father in law’s Card
My Dad's card
My Dad’s card

I will say the circle punch on my Dad’s card is cheesy but my dad will get it

The first card used chocolate chip for the color

I stamped Lovely as a Tree clear mount # 127793 wood mount #128655

I used black Stazon Ink # 101406

The image was stamped onto vellum card stock #101856

On the back of the vellum I used my water color pencils and a brush to get the background effect

The chocolate chip card stock was die cut using the Labels collection framelits # 125598

In both cards I stamped the image twice, the second higher up image was done without re-inking to give it a more faded look thus more dimension

The second card used Night of Navy and Old Olive for the colors

The background was sponged using my ink pads and sponges

The image was stamped with basic black dye ink

I hope they enjoy their cards as much as I enjoyed making them

Happy Father’s Day to everyone!

Leave me a comment below and tell me what you think, I love hearing from you!!!

64 Blog Posts and One Late Post

I realized or rather a close friend pointed out that none of my links on my blog posts were working right

I spent basically the last 24 hours working to fix every single link on my blog

I really appreciate her pointing the broken links out to me

I would not have wanted to see what it would be like if I had years of posts to correct

So since I missed posting on Thursday (which I actually had a topic for, lol) I am posting it today

I try to give myself themes for the days of the week to help me come up with projects and posts

I thought about Thursday, I really was at a loss then I thought how about “That’s Cool Thursday”

So, what does that mean to me?

It means I will find something I find cool and share it with you

Hopefully if you think its cool too you will leave me a comment and tell me(I like to hear these things ☺)

As some of you know I have limited space (480 sq.Ft.) to live in so my crafting zone is tiny and spread out

I have this plastic shoe box with all kinds of colored pencils, watercolor pencils, watercolor crayons, etc.

Since I have been building up my reference book I decided this Thursday I would compare the stuff in that box

I wanted to know how they all stacked up.

I tested five different products:

  1. Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Wonder Crayons (Retired)
  2. Sanford Prismacolor Colored Pencils
  3. Rexel Derwent Watercolor Pencils
  4. Pentel Metallic Automatic Pencils
  5. Koh-i-Noor Woodless Colored Pencils

As you will see I made a small card for each one

I did a blending test with the colors themselves, a blending stump and, water

I made notes directly on the cards for future reference

SU Watercolor Crayons Sanford Prismacolor colored pencils Rexel Derwent watercolor pencils Pentel Metallic Auto pencils Koh-l-noor Woodless Color pencils

I hope this post was helpful to you, I know it will be to me.

Please let me know what you think would be cool for Thursday’s

12 Ways to Save 15%…

Today I want to talk about bundles

Bundles save you 15% off the individual pieces

They are perfectly paired to get you creating instantly

and

Well I haven’t seen a bundle I didn’t like

I will be honest, when I placed my last order I messed up

I ordered two items that were in a bundle but because I was not paying attention I missed out on the 15% savings

To get the savings you have to use the bundle code not the individual codes

SO I am posting all of the bundles in the new Annual Catalog here

That way you have the right codes so you don’t miss out on 15% savings!!!

These are listed in the order you will find them in the catalog

All page references are for the new Annual Catalog (Link on the right)

Take Two Tuesday

Everyone does a technique Tuesday so I decided to mix it up

I am starting a Take Two Tuesday

Every Tuesday I will try to post one stamp, technique or, tool

and

I will show you two ways to use it

This Tuesday I am going to show you Faux silk done two ways

The technique is really quick and simple and leaves a beautiful unique finish

The technique only requires the addition of tissue paper and a glue stick

This technique can give you a matted faux silk look or a glossy faux silk look

Okay lets get started:

First you will need a few things

Cardstock

Tissue paper (old wrinkled tissue paper is fine)

Stamp pads and a stamp set

I used Bloomin Marvelous (retired)

A glue stick, I recommend  the Anywhere Glue Stick #104045 it is rectangle in shape and will get to the corners of your cards

Crystal Effects # 101055  (For the Glossy version) and a paint brush

Sponges if you want to sponge the edges

First stamp your images onto your piece that is to become faux silk

The Stamped Image on Whisper White Cardstock
The Stamped Image on Whisper White Cardstock

Next cut a piece of tissue paper a little larger than the stamped piece

    Tissue cutting

Next crumple the tissue paper up into a ball

When you open it don’t smooth all the wrinkles out just enough to cover the stamped piece

100_1060 Open tissue

Next apply the glue stick to the entire surface of the stamped piece and pat the tissue onto it without smoothing

We want the wrinkles to show through they are part of the look

Next turn over your piece and glue down any overhang

Tissue glued to front Backside

This is the Matte version of Faux Silk you can leave it this way and use it as is or take it one step further

Matted Faux silk

Glossy Faux Silk

Finished Piece

To do this you need a paint brush and Crystal Effects # 101055

Getting ready for crystal effects

I lay my piece on a piece of wax paper before painting the crystal effects over it

This way when it is dry it will remove without tearing and any adhesive on the edges can be trimmed away with scissors

So go ahead and paint an even layer of crystal effects over the entire surface of your piece and let it dry

Crystal effects added but still wet
Crystal effects added but still wet

Layer this onto card stock when it is dry and you are done

The longest part of this is waiting for the crystal effects to dry

I hope you enjoyed my tutorial on take two “Faux Silk”
